Peru - Technical Assistance

Helping NGOs Increase the Coverage and Impact of Their Projects
In
2000, SID began a major three-year program to provide technical assistance
to NGOs working throughout the Southern Sierra of Peru. SID provided
technical assistance to 23 NGOs over the course of the three years, the
program was similar to the one conducted in Bolivia, and it was also
evaluated by the team led by Dr. Loyd Brown. In Peru, Dr. Brown found
that the 23 NGOs provided services to 10,987 farm families in 217 rural
communities. The income of these farm families increased an
average of 25% during the period of
the technical assistance, and
the farm families reclaimed an average of 0.43
hectares per family.
Dr. Brown concluded that SID/Bolivia and SID/Peru "surpassed the target number of participating organization and went far beyond the end-of-Program goals for the number of communities and rural families. These numbers are indicative of the highly successful work of the Country Offices in their application of the selection procedures for participant organization and in the provision of technical assistance in the different phases of the six-phased, two-tiered plan on which the Program is based."
